Lino Printing Workshop | Culture Night 2020

After much anticipation, it was with great excitement that Culture Night 2020 could take place! I was delighted to host a mini Lino printing workshop in my studio to a limited number of participants. Culture Night is an island wide event, that opens up cultural spaces and experiences to the general public. Hosted on the one night, these nationwide events are free, offering the public a wonderful opportunity to dip in and experience something new. I partnered with the Kildare Arts Office to host.

Due to Covid restrictions the Lino printing workshop I hosted had to be limited in numbers but we didn’t let that spoil the fun. Before guests arrived, I had pre-cut the Lino blocks creating illustrations based on two themes - Dogs & Home Grown Vegetables. Each element was cut on its own little Lino block so they could be used together with another one to create a pattern or on its own. Guests were encouraged to experiment with colour, layout & final usage, but the main outcome was to get an introduction understanding of relief printing. When they had a “feel” for the printing process, guests then printed final artworks to take home. Some printed on greeting cards, others created artwork prints & patterned tote bags.

Personally it was wonderful to have the event take place with current circumstances & to finally share my studio space with others. Overall I really enjoyed hosting for Culture Night 2020, & I hope that guests had fun while learning the wonderful art of Lino printing.

Thanks to the Kildare Arts Office for the hosting opportunity
